Getting Started

Markdrip is a private, local-first meeting-notes app. It captures your microphone (and, optionally, system audio), transcribes speech on-device, and stores the result as Markdown in a folder on your own disk. Content processing is local by default; external AI services are optional per task.

Install

Download the latest signed build for your platform from the releases page and open it like any other desktop app. There is no account to create and no sign-in step — Installed local features can work offline. Features that need additional components require a download first.

First launch

Check Your device and local AI for Apple silicon requirements, setup storage and the quality/performance trade-offs of local processing. Windows and Linux guidance is provisional.

Review the September 8, 2026 terms and privacy summaries. Accept and Decline are available immediately; opening each linked public document is optional and is not a separate acceptance requirement.

After you accept the privacy policy, first-time setup makes a country-only request to select regional usage-data controls. It sends no meeting content or installation identifier; saved network restrictions are preserved. Review service connections and the visible Share basic usage data preference next. Work offline is on by default, with Cloud processing: Off. AI processing stays on this device. Separately enabled service connections can still run. Licensing, update checks, and enabled usage reporting run independently of meeting processing. You can change these choices in Settings. See Data and network use.

First recording

  1. Open Markdrip and grant microphone (and, if you want system audio, screen-recording) permission when prompted.
  2. Click Record to start capturing a meeting.
  3. Click Stop when the meeting ends. Markdrip transcribes the audio on-device and saves a new Markdown note into your vault.
  4. Open the note from the sidebar to read the transcript, edit segments, or tag speakers.

Where your data lives

Every note is a plain Markdown file inside your vault folder, readable and editable outside of Markdrip. See Configuration to change the vault location, and Privacy for local defaults and optional processing choices.
