Your device and local AI

Markdrip processes meetings on your device by default. Your hardware and selected local components affect how quickly results arrive and how well they capture a conversation. Try a short recording in your usual language before relying on a new setup for an important meeting.

ItemGuidance
ProcessorApple silicon, M1 or newer. Intel Macs are not supported.
Operating systemmacOS 14 or later.
Memory16 GB or more recommended for local AI alongside your meeting app. This is planning guidance, not a tested minimum.
Free storageBudget 10 GB for the app, initial local components and setup headroom. Allow additional space for recordings and extra components. This is a starting budget, not a fixed installation size.
Setup connectionDownload the local components you need during setup; installed components can work without a connection.

An 8 GB device has less room for a meeting app, browser and local processing at the same time. Close unnecessary apps and evaluate a short recording first. More memory can provide headroom; it does not guarantee a particular processing speed or make every AI result correct.

To identify an Apple silicon Mac, open Apple menu → About This Mac and look for Chip, followed by an Apple chip name. See Apple’s device identification guide.

Start with the recommended transcription option in Settings → Recording → Transcription. Compare the same familiar recording if you change it.

  • Smaller transcription options usually use less storage and memory and process faster. They can lose words, brief turns or details that matter.
  • Larger options can improve some results, but need more resources and are not always better for every language or recording.
  • Summaries and Ask have their own component needs. A smaller transcription choice does not reduce every part of the app’s memory use. The app does not offer an arbitrary choice of local summary models.
  • Audio quality matters. A clear microphone signal, captured system audio for remote speakers and less overlapping speech make the source more useful. A larger download cannot recover speech that was never recorded.
  • Workload matters. Long meetings, other open apps and optional processing can change completion time. Download size is not the same as memory needed while running.

Review the summary’s decisions and actions against the transcript and original audio. A faster result is useful only if it retains the information you need.

Windows and Linux downloads are coming soon. For planning, we are targeting a modern 64-bit processor, 16 GB of memory and SSD storage, with at least 10 GB free for initial setup and more for recordings. These are provisional targets, not verified requirements or a promise that a particular device will be supported.

Supported OS versions, processor architectures, audio capture and acceleration will be confirmed with the corresponding release. There is no release date commitment in this guidance.

If you want to use a supported external AI service, choose it separately for each task and review what it receives. Provider charges and limits are separate from Markdrip; a consumer chat subscription is not an API account. Choosing a service changes where that task runs and is not a promise of better quality. You do not need to connect a provider to use Markdrip.
