Biometric & Voice Data Notice
This notice supplements the Privacy & Local-First Guarantees page. It covers voice fingerprints specifically, because some privacy laws treat this data category separately.
What voice data Markdrip processes
Section titled “What voice data Markdrip processes”When you use the speaker-identification feature, Markdrip generates a voice fingerprint (a mathematical model derived from a speaker’s voice characteristics) for each person you choose to enroll. This fingerprint is used only to recognize that speaker across your own meeting notes.
Markdrip also retains short voice clips used during the enrollment process to confirm the fingerprint quality, and processes audio during each meeting to match speakers to known fingerprints.
Where voice data is stored
Section titled “Where voice data is stored”Voice fingerprints and voice clips are stored on your device only, in your local vault. They are never transmitted to Markdrip or any third party, in any mode. They are Tier 0 data: no setting, consent flow, or future feature can change this.
Purpose
Section titled “Purpose”The sole purpose is speaker identification within your own meeting notes — associating a recognized voice with a contact name so your notes say “Alice” instead of an anonymous label. Markdrip does not use voice data for authentication, fraud detection, analytics, or any purpose other than local speaker matching.
Retention
Section titled “Retention”Voice fingerprints and clips remain on your device until you delete them. They are not subject to any automatic expiry. You control the lifecycle entirely.
How to erase voice data
Section titled “How to erase voice data”- Erase all voice data: Settings → Privacy → “Erase all voice data,” then confirm. This removes all voice fingerprints and clips from your vault. Uninstalling the app does not automatically erase voice data; use this control before uninstalling if you want a clean removal.
- Remove a single person’s voice data: open that contact in Markdrip and use the “Forget voice data” option. This removes only the fingerprint and clips for that contact.
Enrolling someone other than yourself
Section titled “Enrolling someone other than yourself”Before Markdrip saves a voice fingerprint for another person, the app presents an attestation step asking you to confirm that you have the necessary consent from that person. Your confirmation is recorded in an on-device consent ledger.
You are responsible for obtaining any consent required by law before enrolling another person’s voice. Laws that may apply include:
- Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA): requires a written release before collecting biometric identifiers, including voiceprints.
- Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act (CUBI): requires informed consent before capturing biometric identifiers.
- EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/UK-GDPR): treats biometric data used for unique identification as a special category requiring explicit consent or another lawful basis.
- Other jurisdictions may have similar requirements.
The attestation step in the app is an aid, not a substitute for your own legal judgment. Where applicable law requires written consent, you must obtain it before enrolling.
